Brent Gattis is a Senior Policy Advisor at Olsson Frank.  Mr. Gattis most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff for the House Committee on Agriculture.  He started with the Committee in 1996 and worked for four different Chairmen of the Committee including Pat Roberts, Bob Smith, Larry Combest, and Bob Goodlatte.  Mr. Gattis was Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry, before becoming the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Full Committee.

Under Congressman Goodlatte's leadership, Mr. Gattis served as the key political advisor to the Chairman for agriculture policy, developed the legislative strategy, and managed legislation that fell within the Committee's broad jurisdiction.  He acted as liaison between the Chairman, the Members, and staff of the Committee, federal departments and agencies, industry groups, and constituents.  Mr. Gattis served as the lead staff person on international Congressional trade delegation missions to over 20 nations, including trips to Iraq, Afghanistan, China, Great Britain, and Brazil.  He also managed the Committee's staff, operations, and multimillion dollar annual budget.  He was also integrally involved in the 2002 Farm Bill negotiations in which Congressman Goodlatte was a conferee.  Mr. Gattis took a lead role negotiating the nutrition and forestry titles of the bill.

Mr. Gattis, class of 1995 from Texas A&M University, graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Development.

Mr. Gattis' parents, Dan & Karen Gattis, are former Agriculture Education and Home Economics teachers respectively.  His father served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for 28 years.  His brother, Dan, was elected to the Texas State Legislature in 2002 and was named Republican Freshman of the year.  The family owns and operates Gattis Cattle Company L.L.C. in Williamson County, Texas, where they run registered Beef Master cattle.
